Judith Beheading Holofernes (1599)
Caravaggio
Judith, biblical heroine, enters the tent of Holofernes and decapitates him saving her town from invasion by the Assyrians. Her servant side-kick is usually used to distinguish her from Salome (another biblical beheader).
